Marilyn Zaretsky

Marilyn Zaretsky is a Director for the National Urban Alliance and serves on the Management Team. Since 2006, in her role as Director, she has provided oversight to the NUA partnership with the City School District of Albany, NY. From 2001-2007, she served as the NUA Director of the Indianapolis Public Schools project. In 2001, Ms. Zaretsky retired from the public school system as Superintendent of Schools in South Huntington, NY. She had been an educator in the South Huntington School system since 1966.

Ms. Zaretsky joined NUA to “do what I got into education for in the first place.” Her passion is to work with teachers and students to surface and nurture their expertise and potential. She enjoys working with mentors in a supportive role and facilitating their collaborative efforts and growth.

Ms. Zaretsky received her Bachelor's degree from the University of Buffalo and her Master's degree and Professional Diploma in Administration and Supervision from Queens College. She has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the National Urban Alliance and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. She is past president of New York State ASCD and the Huntington Branch of the American Association of University Women.

Ms. Zaretsky has published articles in professional journals on mentoring and technology, created resource guides and handbooks, and produced materials to supplement the marketing of television documentaries. In addition, she has been a presenter on educational issues at various national, state and local conferences and workshops as well as local universities. NUA provides a forum for Marilyn to contribute her organizational skills and broad background and experience in the areas of instruction and curriculum. She employs her facilitation skills to provide multiple opportunities for interactions and growth among mentors, as well as the educators that the NUA serves
