Since 2006, NUA has been active in 17 of the 30 elementary and middle schools of the Bridgeport Public Schools.
- In 2010, for the first time this decade, Bridgeport students demonstrated near uniform improvement in grades 3-8 on the Connecticut Mastery Tests in reading and mathematics.

In 2000, the Beardsley School in Bridgeport Connecticut was cited as in need of improvement. In 2006, it entered the district’s partnership with NUA.Beardsley is composed of 98 percent children of color and serves a high-poverty student population.
