Camile Earle-Dennis was born in Montego Bay, Jamaica yet spent most of her schooling years in Miami, Florida where she now resides with her husband and father. She attended Drew University in Madison, New Jersey where she mentored Newark students through the Ready Foundation and 10,000 Mentors. It was at that time that she fell in love with Newark children. That love would be what would shift her focus to teaching and launch her Newark educational career. It was her work at Barringer High School that earned her the prestigious Milken Family Foundation Educator Award in 2005. Camile learned early on that educating youth stems beyond the classroom walls. “My idea of teaching has always been beyond the classroom. It is my duty and responsibility to maximize the potential of all students and the teachers that serve them.”
Her affiliation with NUA is one that she is most proud of. “It is an honor to be among greatness in the NUA. We are all working toward the same goal for urban children: optimal intellectual performance by way of high operational practices.”
Camile has earned a Masters of Arts in Teaching with specializations in Reading and National Board Certification. She is currently completing a Master of Science in Instructional Leadership. She is a member of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD), the International Reading Association (IRA), Milken Family Foundation (MFF), National Council for Teachers of English (NCTE), Phi Delta Kappa International (PDK); Florida Literacy Coaches Association (FLCA); and the Florida Education Association (FEA).
Camile has also started a non-profit Foundation in honor of her late mother who helped instill her passion for learning and teaching. The Norma Delores Earle Foundation, Incorporated recognizes student performance and awards academic scholarships to students who show exemplary performance in the area of literacy. These scholarships are provided directly to the student’s institution to offset the rising costs of collegiate studies. The Norma Delores Earle Foundation, Incorporated also provides funding for books and other resource materials that promote literacy and student connection within the classroom.
