At the Delaware Community School in Albany, New York, principal Thomas Giglio reports that “The NUA philosophy of ‘no learning can occur without first building relationships’ is a way of life for us at DCS. Our students now use the NUA tools at their own discretion, often without prompting. Students and staff take pride in teaching each other new strategies.” The results speak for themselves:
- In 2008-2009, 56 percent of students scored at or above proficient in English Language Arts—a 21 percent increase from the 2006-2007 school year (35percent).
- In 2008-2009, 69 percent of students scored at or above proficient in math— a 25 percent increase from 2006-2007(44 percent).
