Greene County School District, Georgia

Chronically tardy students from schools in Greene County School District are routinely relegated to attend Saturday School. In the first year of the initiative, they participated in professional development with their teachers through StudentVoicesNUA. This led to several positive outcomes:

  • 100 percent of Saturday School students discontinued their tardy behaviors.
  • Students became leaders, receiving service-learning credit toward graduation for the co-teaching of elementary students.
  • One student trained by NUA for three school years with targeted educators and students alike was chosen to attend a youth advocacy conference with Secretary of Education Arne Duncan.
