Kathlene Holmes

In 1999, Kathlene Holmes began her teaching career as a kindergarten teacher. After becoming a kindergarten grade level co-chair and leading equity staff development sessions, Ms. Holmes accepted an opportunity to become a consultant for Making Choices, a social skills program developed by researchers at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. As a consultant, Ms. Holmes saw the need for increased teacher dialogue and the sharing of best practices, so she decided to pursue becoming a professor of education. She now resides in Jacksonville, FL and is a Professor of Education at Florida State College at Jacksonville.

Ms. Holmes firmly believes that every child can learn and deserves a quality education. She is particularly passionate toward initiatives that support multiculturalism and literacy. An avid traveler, Ms. Holmes continues to learn about diverse cultures and infuse her learning in her teaching methods. Her interests in these areas have led her to work with local and national agencies.

Ms. Holmes attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and earned a BA in Elementary Education and M.Ed. in Early Childhood Intervention and Family Studies. She credits her family and undergraduate cooperating teacher, Shyvonne Steed-Foster, as major influences on her success as a teacher. Ms. Holmes is grateful for the guidance and support that she received early on in her college and early teaching years. She recognizes and acts upon her responsibility to provide the same guidance and support to teachers that she received.
