Lisa Neasbitt

Hailing from a small town in Texas, Lisa has remained close to her family roots her entire life. Supporting NASA education, Lisa designed elementary and middle school STEM educational materials concerning the U.S. Vision for Space Exploration. She also created proposal calls and was awarded federal funding for many NASA educational projects. Before joining the NASA education team, her previous work experience included science and technology facilitation in public schools; internal facilitation for Federal Teaching and Learning Grant recipients; curriculum correlation for textbook publishers; and curriculum development, publication, and instruction for Michael Dell Children’s Museum.

Lisa has been the recipient of many local, regional, state and national science education distinctions. She was nominated by her students for Educator Astronaut, and was an Educator Astronaut applicant. Lisa’s passion lies in extending educational opportunities to all children and educators, both nationally and internationally.

Having science curriculum and instruction experience totaling over 20 years, Lisa holds a B.S. from Texas A&M University, and has graduate studies at the University of Houston, the University of Houston Clear Lake, and Texas A&M University. She holds a lifetime teaching certification in elementary and science education. A member of the Association for Supervisory and Curriculum Development, the National Science Teachers Association, and the National Association for Bilingual Educators, Lisa has presented educational materials published with NASA in over 75 workshops nationally and internationally. Her publications, using metrics, quantitative, and qualitative data analysis, and assessment data disaggregation, include work completed with after school science programs and the NASA 21st Century Explorer Project, the NASA Fit Explorer Project, and the NASA Sports and Exploration Project.

Lisa served on Houston Mayor Bill White’s Wellness Council, representing the NASA Johnson Space Center Human Research Program Education and Outreach Project. She recently lectured at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival “50 Years of NASA Celebration” in Washington D.C. on Space Shuttle and International Space Station water recovery and recycling systems. With much pride, Lisa joined the BRiLLKiDS Lecture Series, and has lectured alongside many dignitaries from around the globe. Twice, Lisa was invited by the Scottish government to lecture at The University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland for the Careers Scotland Science Extravaganza on the elementary bilingual education project, The NASA 21st Century Explorer. Lisa has initiated and sustained NASA partnerships with the Houston Independent School District, and Major League Sports teams including the Houston Dynamo, the LA Galaxy, and the DC United, as well as government agencies including, but not limited to, the Food and Drug Administration, Human Health and Services, The President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, The Surgeon General, and the United States Department of Agriculture.
