Mamie Merrifield is a career public school educator with 21 years as a teacher and 9 years as middle school administrator. . Her areas of expertise are staff development, instructional leadership, middle school curriculum, and interdisciplinary/arts-infused curriculum. Ms. Merrifield has worked for NUA since 2004 as a Mentor in Indianapolis, WMEP and Newark; and as the Director of the TRUST Initiative in Birmingham.

Ms. Merrifield enjoys connecting with nature and the outdoors. She has camped with students at Indiana University’s Bradford Woods and at Minnesota’s Deep Portage, a winter camping experience. She was awarded an Audubon Society scholarship to attend the Audubon Retreat for Teachers in Norwalk, CT. She rafted and camped for eight days on a 280 mile journey down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon as a part of Gary Howard’s River of Diversity and Vision. In 2008, Ms. Merrifield volunteered in River Trek, a 75 mile canoe and camping experience down the Little Miami and Ohio Rivers with teens from community centers operated by the Cincinnati Recreation Commission.

Ms. Merrifield holds a B.A., M.A. and Principal Certification from Indiana University and K-12 Principal Certification from the University of Minnesota. She is licensed as a principal in Indiana, Minnesota and Texas. Ms. Merrifield served as principal of Harwood Middle School in Evansville, IN, a C.L.A.S.S. school; Hosterman Middle School in New Hope, MN; and the Fine Arts Interdisciplinary Resource (FAIR) School in Crystal, MN.
