S. Lynn Wilhelm, Ph.D.

Lynn Wilhelm, Ph.D. has been an educator since 1971. She was a classroom teacher for 24 years at the high school, middle school and elementary levels. Dr. Wilhelm also served as a Reading Recovery Teacher Leader and a curriculum specialist in the central office for a large Michigan school district. From 2004-2004, she was an Educator on Loan to the Michigan Department of Education overseeing Reading First programs in the state. In addition, Lynn has been an adjunct faculty member teaching graduate and undergraduate courses for Michigan State University, Central Michigan University, Oakland University and Saginaw Valley State University.

Dr. Wilhelm has two areas of passion. The first revolves around books. Motivating students to become independent readers, thinkers and life-long learners is her goal and she knows this can often be accomplished by introducing high quality literature to students. Her second passion is teacher education. She works hard to improve the pre-student teaching experiences of education majors to better prepare them for careers in education.

Dr. Wilhelm received a BS and MA in English Language and Literature from Eastern Michigan University. She received another master’s degree from Marygrove College specializing in Reading. In 1991, she completed her Ph.D. at Michigan State in curriculum specializing in the cognate areas of Language Arts, English Education, Reading, and Children’s Literature. She has been a member of several literacy organizations including the Michigan Reading Association, the International Reading Association, The Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and the National Staff Development Council.

In addition to her love of learning, Dr. Wilhelm likes to travel, play golf and read. She lives in Port Huron, Michigan and Gulf Shores, Alabama.
