Valerie Zeman

Valerie Zeman’s early professional life centered on the operations management of law firms. It was while working in the legal arena that Ms. Zeman honed her office procedures proficiencies and meticulous attention to detail. Within these law practices, Ms. Zeman was involved in all aspects of litigation law at State and Federal levels; in particular, managing casework among four different Supreme Courts of New York, as well as the New York Court of Appeals. Prior to joining her career with the National Urban Alliance, Ms. Zeman owned and operated her own fabric and textile art business.

In November 2001, Ms. Zeman accepted a position working directly for the NUA and has been instrumental on both the local and national levels in furthering and reinforcing its vision and mission. In her capacity as Coordinator of Administration and Office Management, Ms. Zeman has improved all areas of operations by upgrading technology, streamlining and standardizing procedures, and instituting cost-effective measures across the board. From conferences and retreats to planning and facilitating the Syosset, Long Island office relocation, Ms. Zeman has been instrumental in seamlessly producing results. It is, more importantly, her capacity for fostering and maintaining exceptional, positive relations among diverse NUA organization members and staff that exemplifies Ms. Zeman’s most meaningful contribution to the NUA agenda and mission.

Ms. Zeman’s professional development and education has encompassed both business and liberal arts. Her lifelong love of learning is, more recently, directed toward her passion for the arts; in particular, textile, fiber and graphic arts. Ms. Zeman is an active participant in the Long Island arts community. In addition to attending classes at PRO Chemical and Dye in Massachusetts, Nancy Crow’s Barn in Ohio, the Hudson River Valley Art Workshops School in upstate New York, she is enrolled in a three-year textile and fiber art mastery program under the auspices of ArtCloth Studios in San Antonio and her mentor, Jane Dunnewold.
