NUA Board Member Linda Darling Hammond shares insights at a virtual session with the NUA partner Redwood City School District at an Equity Committee training facilitated by Senior Scholar Yvette Jackson.

In Class Collaboration Virtually

Fifth grade classrooms at Clifford School in the Redwood City School District. The virtual lesson explores subjective and objective with use of definitions; objects to consider; collaboration with students in pairs and whole class; interactive compare and contrast map (teacher modeling while students are doing individually and developing collaboratively) along with the frame of reference. Students and teachers were in the physical classroom with the mentor virtually part of via Zoom.

The collaboration with Redwood City School District has included regular classroom demonstrations with grades 2-5 and middle school. Often multiple whole classrooms are participating concurrently which supports an opportunity to observe and process HOPs together along with the students. 

Reflections on the Virtual Collaboration

Fourth and fifth grade team at Clifford School in the Redwood City School District (San Francisco Bay Area) share reflections with a district coach on their collaborative experiences with NUA virtually. The collaboration includes regular demonstration lessons in classrooms (both when students have been virtual and in-person), teacher professional development, staff meetings and with leadership including the school board.

Equity Committee Facilitated by Yvette Jackson

Multiple sessions with Redwood City School District Equity Committee that developed policy in a new mission statement for equity. The participants in the three + sessions included board members, community members, members of the school district community from all departments and mentors from NUA.
