Pat Haith, MA

Although trained as a teacher of high school mathematics, Pat Haith, MA began her teaching career with third grade students. Serving in Bushwick High School in Brooklyn, NY for 20 years, her roles and responsibilities encompassed teaching mathematics, chairing the mathematics department, counseling students for college and being school administrator for programming, attendance and finance.

The next 20 years of Ms. Haith’s career was spent working centrally at the New York City Board of Education. She served as Director of Allocation, Management and Planning; preparing and distributing budget allocations to all New York City high schools. Then as Deputy Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Ms. Haith assisted in the design and implementation of the current professional development model which calls for each district to have a Director/Deputy Superintendent of Instruction.

As Director for Instruction for New York City high schools, Ms. Haith played a major role in supporting, designing and advocating the development of small school communities. Her work helped to enable the opening of 55 new schools in one year. She also worked with principals and superintendents to design and set up Principal Peer Groups which led to the empowerment of principals to plan and focus on their professional development and growth. Her training and “nurturing” of the principals and staff have given her godmother status in this domain. For this work, she received numerous honors and awards.

As Superintendent of Operations, Ms. Haith was responsible for the management and distribution of all instructional resources to central offices, high school district offices and to high schools. All operational high school issues (technology/school sport) were coordinated through her office. She used her experience and ability to advocate for the best possible environments for superintendents, principals and teachers to focus on teaching and learning in the classroom. This sometimes-lone voice was always heard and often resulted in change and reform.

Ms. Haith received a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics degree from State University of New York at Stonybrook. She received a Master of Arts degree in Mathematics Education from New York University and Administration and Supervision training from Pace University.
