Literacy Initiative Goals

  • Build a model system for district-wide ongoing professional development in reading for teachers. Successful teacher practices and teacher leadership are core components.
  • Leadership academy members and third year participants provide leadership of on-site professional development program.
  • Regular in person communication and collaboration of teacher, administration, and NUA consultants at boundary sessions, site visits, and the Leadership Academy. This collaboration is focused on successful teaching practices.
  • Regular communication and collaboration through newsletters, listservs, distance learning, video, and website.
  • Generate and use standards and criteria for identification of successful practices to use as models in project newsletters, videotapes, distance learning and classrooms. These standards and criteria are tied to student achievement.
  • Regular collection of professional development data to analyze and build from.
  • Collect videos of consultants and successful teachers and principals for a video library that would support ongoing professional development.
