DESCRIPTION: The primary objective of the East Allen County School District and NUA
Initiative is to plan and deliver professional development that
significantly enhances the capacity of teachers and administrators to
create and deliver classroom lessons that more effectively engage all
students in rigorous intellectual discussions, research, written and
oral presentations and student developed projects, in all curriculum
areas, leading to higher levels of student engagement..

NUA trained teacher is East Allen Teacher of the Year! (May, 2010) The National Urban Alliance for Effective Education would like to congratulate Paul Harding High School special education teacher Sharon Smith on being named the Teacher of the Year in the East Allen County Schools. This is the first time a special educator has received that honor. Sharon is one of Harding's finest, and is a member of NUA's first cohort in the district. Way to go, Sharon!
Positive change happening in Harding-area schools ( Eric J. Cooper; Fort Wayne Journal Gazette, April 2, 2010) On Feb. 3, 2009, more than 60 community leaders attended what was cited as an enthusiastic kickoff for the East Allen County Schools and National Urban Alliance for Effective Education partnership. The focus of the partnership is support of Harding-area schools. For more than a year, we have had opportunities to serve with dedicated teachers, principals, administrators, parents and community stakeholders who are writing a new Harding narrative, with students, teachers and administrators fearlessly learning, teaching and leading. Picture Perfect Day at Village - Rafi Feuerstein,teachers, and students of Village Elementary School, East Allen County Schools, Fort Wayne, Indiana View a short animated video featuring a recent visit to Village Elementary School in East Allen County Schools, Indiana. As part of a 2 day visit organized by NUA, Rabbi Feuerstein is the Deputy Chariman of the Feuerstein Institute in Jerusalem and a partner of NUA, conducted demo lessons for administrators and teachers of how to use Instrumental Enrichment. Where all children learn Teachers at Village Elementary School might be under the gun from the state’s school accountability law, but they aren’t wasting time blaming parents and students. They are too busy teaching – using an approach based on the assumption that all children can learn and tailoring instruction to ensure they do.

Symposium - All Children Will Learn! Do You Believe It? Hear Eric Cooper, Yvette Jackson, and Rafi Feuerstein speak at an exciting symposium on January 25, 2010, from 4:30 PM to 7 PM in New Haven, Indiana. Dr. Cooper will speak on Transformative Education, Rabbi Feuerstein on Learning Potential Assessment, and Dr. Jackson on Powerful Pedagogy. Click here for more information.
The Student Engagement Project (and wiki) was a collaboration with East Allen Community Schools and the National Urban Alliance. Robert Price facilitated the ongoing collaboration with Paul Harding High School students that is a part of the professional development collaboration between East Allen Community Schools and National Urban Alliance. The goal of the initiative was multiple stakeholders within the learning community are part of ongoing professional development. By understanding each other's needs and frame of reference, collaborating in a thoughtful and though provoking manner, the learning community and the greater city community benefit. The Student Engagement Project began in January 2009.
